Sensational Southern rock artists Hank Williams Jr. and Lynyrd Skynyrd are bringing their signature sounds to the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater!
Lynyrd Skynyrd was formed in Jacksonville (Florida) in 1964 by teenage friends Ronnie Van Zant (vocals), Bob Burns (drums), Allen Collins (guitar), Gary Rossington (guitar), and Larry Junstrom (bass). They first called themselves My Backyard, then changed their name to The Noble Five, and 2 years later, changed it again to One Percent. In 1969 they changed it to Leonard Skinnerd, in a mocking tribute to their high school’s P.E teacher (Leonard Skinner) who was notorious for strictly enforcing the school's policy against boys having long hair. They started to use the current and more distinctive spelling in 1970 and they went on to become the definitive Southern rock band, fusing the overdriven power of blues-rock with a rebellious Southern image and a hard rock swagger. In 1977 and at the peak of their success, 3 members died in plane crash and the band split up soon after. They reunited a decade later and went on to become a popular concert act during the early '90s. They’ve had a stellar career with 14 studio albums, 6 live albums, 23 compilation albums, 5 video albums and 30 singles. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
